• Zips on leather garments tend to oxydise with time

  This problem is due to attack from leather acids which with time depisit themselves on the zip: use metal zips containing nickel, as nickel can protect the metal chain from such attacks.

   

• Wearing out and breaking of zip cursors on tsone washed or dyed garments

  Protective plastic or sylicone caps can be applied onto the zip to protect it from being hit by stones or attacked by additives used during such processes. Sometimes these events can be so disruptive that the only thing to do is  having to remove the zip from the garment and change it. Applying protective caps will avoid all this hassle.

   

• Stud buttons can cause ruptures in fabric

  Apply a plastic washer between the head of the button and the fabric which will be in contact with the female stud coulpe, and between the rivet of the male stud couple and the bit of fabric which will be in contact with it. This serves to improve fabric resistance when the button is opened and cloed repeatedly.

   

• Rupture of the lining near inners seams in comfort jackets

  Always use linings with better stress resistance like 100% polyester or cupro, medium weight, twill veawe lining of around 100gr/mt or taffetas around 90gr/mt. A good tip is to use stretch materials which allow the lining to follow the movements of the outer fabric

   

• Risk of shrinking and colour running for 100% cotton linings

  Always use sanforized, non-shrink fabrics tinted with reactive dyes.

   

• Feathers coming out of goose down jackets

  Use a polyester thread #80 which will cover the hole created during sewing.

   

• Threads leaving stains on fabrics

  Use 100% water repellent polyester threads, which will remain intact when in contact with water.
